How to Select the Best Cat Nail Clipper

How to Select the Best Cat Nail Clipper

There are basically 4 different types or styles of cat nail clippers - scissors, guillotine, pliers, and grinder - see below for a brief description, pros and cons of each style and a list of the best cat nail trimmers.

The style of clipper is a personal preference as to what suits you and your cat. The most popular is the scissor style. Whilst some people suggest human nail clippers will work, they tend to crush and crack a cat's nail because they have a greater curve and are a lot thicker than a human's nail. Vets recommend cat clippers as they are designed for cats and cut in a slicing motion.

What are the Different Types of Cat Nail Clippers?

Whichever style you choose keep the blades sharp otherwise the cut will be jagged, ineffective, and stressful to your cat.

Scissor Style

The most popular style, a scissor grip, is similar to human nail scissors found in most households but have a smaller and more rounded tip than typical human nail scissors.
